Meet the family behind the farm!

Calvin is a Fort Collins native and has been farming vegetables for almost a decade. He has managed multiple operations from a small 100 person CSA to 1000s of acres of organic vegetable and hemp production all over the state of Colorado. He is the jack of all trades from equipment operation and irrigation to helping other farmers with their operations through his agricultural consulting business. He loves to talk farming -- just ask his family and friends!

Bradi grew up around the rolling corn fields of Iowa but was far removed from food production with the exception of a small family garden. She started as an intern at a small CSA farm in southwest Colorado 7 years ago and hasn't looked back. Over the past 7 years, you could find her managing greenhouses and propagation programs for year-around tomato, lettuce and pepper production, completing food safety and organic certifications, packing boxes, and slinging vegetables at the farmers markets with a baby on her hip.

Nora and River are farmers in training. Nora has spent the last four years keeping morale high during long harvest days and helping us with food waste by eating all the extra cherry tomatoes. You can find her jumping in muddy puddles, helping her dad irrigate, and riding her bike around the farm. River is a newbie to the farm life but she has jumped right in eating dirt and pulling plants out of the ground. It may be frustrating for us now but she is going to be a key player once harvest starts!

We look forward to meeting all of you in person and providing our community with some awesome food this year.

Stubborn Roots Farm is a small, diversified vegetable farm located between Fort Collins and Timnath, Colorado.

After managing larger scale farms for the past couple of years and missing the connection we had with our community, we decided to take over the 10 acre horse property Calvin grew up on. We are currently growing on a small 1/2 acre and will be expanding to  2-acre market garden and full CSA model by 2021.

Our goal is to provide the surrounding community with responsibly grown, nutrient dense fruits and vegetables. Our motto is "healthy soil, healthy food, healthy community."  We truly believe food brings people together in the best kind of way!

At Stubborn Roots Farm, our primary focus is healthy soil. We take care of the soil and in return, it will take care of all the plants needs. This is accomplished by only tilling the beds once per season,  using compost, covering the beds with ground cover, intensive planting, or cover crop, and lastly rotating and diversifying our crops growing on the farm each season. All the amendments we use on the farm are naturally derived and OMRI listed. We go above organic growing regulations and follow our own rule "if our kids can't eat our fruit or vegetables right off the plant, we are not using it."
